Led by founding director Paul Carlson, this steep hike will climb to the early autumn color on the Pinnacle rock outcrop, one of the most iconic overlooks in the Plott Balsam Mountains. The Pinnacle is located in the old Sylva Watershed which was conserved under easement with Mainspring support a dozen years ago. This was an early conservation project in the Plott Balsams where several thousand additional acres have been conserved in recent years, including a major project under Mainspring leadership this year.
The 6 mile round trip hike is strenuous with a climb of over 2000′ in elevation on the way up and a drop of the same on the return.
Bring ample water, lunch, sturdy boots and walking sticks as well as weather appropriate clothing.
The hike will begin at the Pinnacle Park parking lot at 10:00 am at the end of Fisher Creek Road about 4 miles north of downtown Sylva.
The hike will take an estimated 4 to 5 hours.
