THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

Learn the in’s-and-out’s of live staking and how it improves water quality

Live staking, or planting a dormant tree branch directly in soil, is a quick, easy, and cheap way to improve water quality on your property. Join Mainspring Aquatics Programs Manager Jason Meador to learn proper live staking technique at our ongoing restoration site on Georgia Road. Participants will hear the story of the restoration site and how live stakes will benefit the water and wildlife here before we dive into the details: what species are best for live staking, how to source your stakes, and how to properly plant them. After the talk and demonstration, participants will have the opportunity to practice their live staking technique and ask questions.

We will meet at the Hickory Knoll Bartram Trail parking lot (1369 Hickory Knoll Rd, Franklin, NC 28734) at 10:00am on Wednesday, March 6th. Expect to be out for about 2 hours. Bring a water bottle and a pair of work gloves if you have them, extra pairs will be available for those who do not have their own. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair (for the talk/demo at the beginning) and wear layers that they don’t mind getting dirty. There will be a short walk (or drive, depending on how wet the ground is) from the parking area to the workshop area.

This event is free (though donations are always appreciated!), open to the public, and weather dependent. Fill out the form below to register. Email Skye with any questions.
