Native Plant Walk & Talk

When: July 2, 2025 @ 10:00 am

Welch Farm - Ralph Preston

Walk and learn with a native plant expert

Naturalist, gardener, Magnolia specialist, meditator, and native plant grower Jack Johnston is back to lead us on an exploration of the botanical richness of Welch Farm Preserve. This 57-acre tract, conserved in 2011, is entirely in the Valley River floodplain, and boasts impressive numbers and sizes of a variety of unusual or interesting native plants. Among many others, we may learn the stories of the butternut trees, rivercane, and white oaks that live here. This property, like many in this region, has a deep cultural history, which participants will hear a brief summary of at the beginning of the event.

We will meet at Welch Farm Preserve just before 10:00am on Wednesday, July 2nd. See map below for exact location. See the map below for exact location. The walk will take about an hour and a half and will be on mostly even, level ground. There are some stepping hazards at Welch Farm, like roots or mud in the trail, but there is no elevation gain. We will be back at the trailhead by sunset.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Please leave pets at home.

Please treat your registration as a formal ticket. Read this event description thoroughly and ensure that the date, time, and location work for your schedule.
