POSTPONED Valley River Cleanup

When: July 31, 2025 @ 9:00 am

Valley River Cleanup, 2022

Help us to keep this special river clean!

This event has been POSTPONED due to weather concerns. We are in the process of rescheduling with our event partner, Western Carolina Pacesetters, and will announce the new date soon.

The Valley River, which flows southwest out of the Snowbird Mountains to meet the Hiwassee River, is home to many special creatures including ospreys, river otters, and the threatened Sicklefin Redhorse. Join Mainspring and the Western Carolina Pacesetters for a fun half day of splashing in and cleaning up the river!

Volunteers can participate by wading where accessible, and possibly floating (bring your own boat) depending on need. A shuttle would be provided for those who float. Waders can be borrowed from Mainspring if needed, though generally folks go without since the water is refreshing at this time of year. Please indicate on the form below if you will need a pair of waders. A sandwich lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

We will meet in the parking lot of Mountain Credit Union in Marble (8005 NC-141, Marble, NC 28905), just before 10am on Thursday, July 31st. This cleanup is scheduled from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please wear quick-dry clothing and bring water, sun protection, and sturdy waterproof shoes. We recommend long sleeves and pants due to the chance of encountering sharp materials, poison ivy, full sun exposure, or other irritants.

This event has been postponed due to weather concerns. Please check back later for the new date.
