Let’s explore our winter wonderland!
What birds live here year-round? Do mushrooms grow in the wintertime? Where do fish go in the cold months? How do squirrels find their buried nuts? Why don’t evergreens drop their needles, and how do you even identify a tree without its leaves?
Join Skye at Tessentee Bottomland Preserve to answer all your winter nature questions! We’ll take a short, 1 mile walk through the forest and along the river, learning about the life that thrives here in Western North Carolina even in the dormant season. We’ll listen for bird songs, practice our winter tree ID, keep an eye out for animal tracks, and admire the lichens and mosses that continue to happily photosynthesize through the darker months.
This donation-based walk is open to the public. Suggested donation is $5 per person. Click here to make a donation online (select “upcoming event” from the dropdown menu), or bring cash or check to the event. To register for this walk, please fill out the form below. Email Skye with any questions.
