2012 Aquatic Monitoring Season

May 30, 2012

The summer of 2012, marks the 23rd year of Aquatics Monitoring in the Little Tennessee River Basin for Dr. Bill McLarney. The Aquatic Monitoring Program collects data on what types of fish, how many of the each fish were found and their condition. The fish data collected is catalogued and is used to determine stream health and changes in water quality over time. The Aquatics Monitoring database is one of the largest of its kind and includes observations of hundreds of thousands of individual fish representing all species known from the watershed. The Aquatics Monitoring data collection has only been made possible through the help of volunteers.

We need volunteers to help carry on this tradition through 2012. Sampling will start at the end of May and going through August. Sampling lasts half-a-day and no special experience is required. Volunteers need to be at least 12 years of age and reasonably fit as conditions may involve deep water and slippery rocks. All equipment will be provided by LTLT.
