Lakey Creek (Phase II)

Year: 2015

Funded through the North Carolina Resources Commission, this project removed a culvert that was failing and causing a barrier to fish movement upstream. A steel and wooden bridge replaced the culvert while logs and other natural elements were strategically placed in the stream to provide pools for fish to rest. As Mainspring Jason Meador explains, “Think of the stream as a treadmill. Fish, like us, need to hop off the treadmill sometimes and rest. Pools are resting areas, so the fish are happy.”
