Welcome to the Salamander Capital of the world!
The Southern Appalachian mountains are known as the Salamander Capital of the world and harbor an incredible diversity of salamanders- over 50 species! Slide into Innovation Station in Dillsboro from 6:30pm-7:30pm on Thursday, June 11th to join Outreach Director Skye on an exploration of these mysterious, slippery creatures. During this talk, we will discuss why this region is home to so many salamanders, learn how to identify a few common salamander species, discover a few rare species, and share some tips and tricks to protect salamanders in your town, neighborhood, or property. Attendees will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with live salamanders throughout this event.
This talk is part of Balsam Mountain Trust’s Nature on Tap series. This event is free and no registration is required, though supporting our local businesses by purchasing a beverage or snack is encouraged.
