Stewardship Workday: Panthertown Cabin Clean-Out, Tuckasegee

When: November 21, 2026 @ 9:00 am

FIND FRIENDSHIP AND FULFILLMENT WHILE HELPING THE EARTH

Join Mainspring and Friends of Panthertown for this special Saturday workday to remove debris from an old, collapsed cabin on our Slickens Creek property, the newest addition to the Panthertown Valley. Not only was this property one of the last private inholdings within the Valley- now conserved for wildlife habitat and public recreation- but it also represents potential nesting habitat for Golden-Winged Warblers, one of the most threatened forest-dwelling songbirds in the United States. However, it needs some work before it can live up to its full potential, and we need your help to get it there!

Learn more about Golden-Winged Warblers through the Golden-Winged Warbler Working Group, or Cornell’s All About Birds.

We will meet at 1767 Rock Bridge Rd in Tuckasegee just before 9:00am on Saturday, November 21st, and work until 2:00pm. See the map at the bottom of this page for exact meeting location. There is a short (1/4 mile) hike from the parking area to the workday location, mostly along old gravel forest roads. During this workday, we will be removing trash from within the old cabin to prepare it for demolition. Since the Forest Service cannot acquire properties with structures on them, this is a crucial step in the permanent conservation of this property. Your attendance at this workday ensures the property can officially become part of the Panthertown Valley!

Please leave pets at home. This workday is weather dependent. In case of any weather-related delays or cancellations, registered volunteers will be notified via email.

Contact Kaitlyn at [email protected] to RSVP or with any questions.
